Pastors Philip and Tara Roman met in 1995 at Lighthouse Christian Center in Fairfield, CA., where they were both active in youth ministry. They were married in May of 1996. They continued to be active in various ministry capacities at Lighthouse Christian Center and were recognized as deacon in the church.
In 2000, they welcomed their first son, Ezra, into the world. Not long after, in 2001, they moved to Sacramento, CA, where they began attending Crossroads Church of the Open Bible. Phil began ushering and joined the worship team, and Tara assisted in the children’s department. Not long after, they were asked to be children’s pastors, and served in that capacity for about two and a half years. While they were still pastoring the children, the youth department came in need of leadership as well, so for a time they juggled both roles. Phil filled the role of Associate Pastor. He also handled the custodial and lawn care; he jokingly called himself the pastor of the toilets and the lawns.
After the birth of their second son, Micah, at the end of 2004, Phil heard the Lord tell him that he would be a senior pastor. Feeling it was time to pursue a pastorate position, Phil went to Christian Evangelistic Association (now Grace International) to be formally licensed as a pastor. For the next two years, Pastor Phil and Tara served in various ministry capacities at Skyline Christian Center in Natomas, CA, while they prayed for God’s guidance and direction for their future.
In 2007, Pastor Roman received a call from a good pastor friend letting him know there was a senior pastor position open in Houston, TX. His first response was NO. He hadn’t planned to move to Texas, but God had other plans. His pastor friend said that God had put Phil on his heart as the right man for this church. They came to minister at Christ Community Church (now known as Love Walk Christian Center) in late September 2007. When they first set foot on the church property, God told Pastor Phil to raise his hands to the heavens and praise Him and God would give him this church. He was obedient to God’s voice and, within a couple of days, they were accepted by the Elders of the church as well as the Grace International district leaders.
Pastor Roman was formally installed as Senior Pastor on November 18, 2007. They knew they had come home. Tara was formally licensed as a Pastor in November of 2007, and co-pastors beside her husband. Pastors Philip and Tara Roman were ordained as ministers of the gospel by Grace International in October of 2009. They are graduates of Jerry Savelle Ministries International School of Ministry. They are excited about the vision that God has given them to reach people by the Love of God, teach people the Love of God through the Word of God, and release people by the Spirit of God into their effective ministries.
